Nesting Time

The orange blossoms are blooming and the birds are nesting in the boughs. Well, some of them are nesting under our eaves which is making rather a mess!

I've placed some artificial nests and eggs in a few of my ironstone pieces for a "Springy" table display. I've always got vintage creamware and ironstone at my shop so come see what you might like to take home to feather your nest!

Spring Harvest

After our morning walk, my friend Kathy, shared with me some of the bounties of her garden. I haven't cooked beets for years, but tonight they're going into a big chef's salad!

Les Indiennes

Historically these beautiful fabrics originated in India. The themes are derived from fruits, flowers and insects and then carved into wood blocks.  The blocks are then loaded with dye and hand stamped onto natural fibers such as linen and cotton. In the 16^th century these linens were exported to France where the French fell in love with the designs and named them “Les Indiennes” Eventually the craftsmen in Provence started producing their own and now these fabrics and table linens have that distinctive Provençal  feel. On my trip to India I got to see the local craftsmen laboring to create these one of a kind works of art. I carry both made in France and the original made in India “Les Indiennes” I have a new shipment on its way so stop in and see which would look best in your home! Or email me for a direct shipment.

Road Trip to Atlanta

My daughter, Megan, has accepted a new job in Atlanta, Georgia. She asked if I would help her make the cross country drive and get her settled in a new place. I've been to Atlanta only twice, but loved it each time. So off we went across Arizona, New Mexico. Texas, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama and finally Georgia! I have to admit the Southwest can appear pretty boring - at least from the freeway. But the Southeast is already abloom for Spring with flowering pear, redbud, forsythia, and tulip trees. We ate some delicious meals, checked out new shopping venues, visited with dear old friends, and generally had a great time! (And we're still speaking to each other after having spent 24/7 with each other for the past 8 days!) I think she's really going to have some exciting new experiences.

A shopping day at AmericasMart was one of the highlights of the trip.

An early Birthday dinner out for Meg. Eggplant Parmesan at  Mambo Italiano, yum!

We were there to catch part of Atlanta's St. Patrick's Day parade.

On the grounds of Megan's new apartment complex are the ruins of  an old church  built  on the route Sherman took  on his march to Atlanta.

Quiche Lorraine

I'm not sure Julia Child would approve, but I added swiss cheese to her quiche Lorraine recipe. I've just finished reading her book My Life in France  and it's been fun to pour over her recipes in her original Mastering the Art of French Cooking. As much as I like to cook, so many of her recipes seem overly complicated for today's lifestyle. Nevertheless, I'm determined to give a few of them a try! As shown in the movie Julie and Julia her Bouef  Bourguignon is "Yum!" But for tonight, it's Karee's Quiche Lorraine.

Vintage Maple Hutch

Saturday was great day at my store! I've added this vintage maple hutch which is perfect for displaying your dishes or collectibles. My mom has a hutch like this in her breakfast room that she has filled with her antique Quimper collection. (She's promised that someday she'll pass it on to me!) No matter where your collecting passions lie, have fun displaying, sharing, and enjoying what you have!

Le Printemps

It's Spring at The Vintage Chateau. I've brought in lots of fresh florals and petty pastels to brighten your home. Welcome your guests with a lavender wreath reminiscent of Provence.

Valentine's Cooking Class

Occasionally I turn my chateau into a miniature Cordon Bleu by offering kid's cooking classes. This week in preparation for Valentine's Day we made Apricot Marmalade Chicken, couscous, Strawberry Spinach Salad and Fudge Pudding Cake. And of course, decorated heart shaped cookies!

Sweet Valentine's ready for giving!

Aqua Blue blown glass collection

What a beautiful color of blue! I recently came across this collection of blown glass vases. They remind me of the Murano glass that I saw everywhere in Venice. Perhaps this is where these pieces came from? I don't know, but wherever they originated they make a lovely grouping. I'm selling the set as a whole, $50 for all 6 pieces.

Handkerchief Sachets

I found some lovely old handkerchiefs at the flea market last weekend and have already turned them into sweet smelling sachets filled with French lavender. I'll be taking a fresh batch into the store this week along with some vintage creamware and ironstone. Pay me a visit at

Fun at the Flea Market

My friend Kathy and I had a great time Saturday at Merchant Square's Winter flea market! We each found a few treasures to add to our own collections and I stocked up on vintage silverware ready to be made into garden markers. Come on in to the store this week to see what other goodies I found!

Vintage Crocheted Throw

A throw as light as a cloud! Our grandmothers used to call these shawls, and our mother's called them afghans. You'll call this crocheted throw exquisite! This is a vintage piece made of ecru mohair. It measures 46"x46". Soft enough to bundle a baby in, you could also use this as a wrap for yourself, a table topper, or as a small blanket to snuggle in while watching your favorite Jane Austen movie!

Antique European Chandelier

Have you noticed that elaborate chandeliers are becoming fashionable again? This exquisite piece is from Belgium and is 50-75 years old, but has been completely rewired so it's ready to install. It's made of a deep red/burgundy porcelain and is embellished with a floral design, gemstones and gilt arms. A light fixture like this would look stunning in a front entry or over your dining table. Is it Spring already?

My Saturdays are usually spent antiquing but today I gardened. Yes, that's what you do in Arizona in January! I tilled and prepped my herb garden and planted Sugar Snap peas, Buttercrunch and Salad Bowl lettuces and pansies. Then I potted up some sweet Primroses to go by the front door. For me Primroses are a sure sign of Spring! (Even if it is still January).

Still life oil painting

This is a beautiful , classic oil painting of fruit overflowing from baskets to a table. Painted in an old world style this would look lovely in any traditional setting. Large enough for over a sofa, mantle or headboard it measures 39"x27".

Antique English Chimney Pot

These are authentic antique English chimney pots. Remember Mary Poppins and the chimney sweeps? These used to adorn the rooftops of London but now serve as architectural accents for your front porch, patio or garden. They look great filled with ivy or flowers. I have 2 of them offered at $400 each. If you're lucky you can find them elsewhere on the internet for $1000 apiece.
