Stained Glass Windows of France

Our recent tour of France included stops at many of the country's most beautiful cathedrals. The Sonoran Desert Chorale had been invited to sing in these marvelous edifices known for their reverence, history,  and awe inspiring architecture. My favorite element of these
cathedrals were the stained glass windows.
Each is unique, a true work of art and inspirational. Most of these structures were built when the majority of people were illiterate so the windows purpose was to teach of the Savior, the apostles and other saints.
Some windows are more modern and commemorate more recent events in history or  merely serve to inspire with their beauty.

Sainte Mer Eglise

St. Chappelle
 St. Chappell

 Notre Dame Paris

Cathedral at Metz

Notre Dame Cathedral Rouen
Notre Dame Cathedral Strasbourg

Saint Michael surrounded by insignia of the various members of the allied forces
My favorite window is in the church at Saint Mer Eglise which depicts the allied forces paratroopers who came to liberate France during WWII.

“People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.

Elisabeth Kübler-Ross
